Born in Tamaki Makaurau under the shelter of Maungakiekie, poet Leilani Tamu is a descendant of Te Moana nui a Kiwa (Samoa & Tonga). Her first book The Art of Excavation (Anahera Press, 2014) was birthed into the world following a decade of poetic meditation tempered by the personal and political.
Leilani's published writing has featured in a range of anthologies and journals, including 'Remember Me: Poems to Learn by Heart from Aotearoa New Zealand' (edited by Anne Kennedy, 2023).
Leilani has delivered reviews for RadioNZ's Nine to Noon programme and been a judge for the Ockham New Zealand Book Awards.
