This course is designed as an introduction to long-term French learning. Suitable for absolute beginners or for those who have learned some French in the past and would like to consolidate basic skills as well as building up their French vocabulary.

Topics and vocabulary:
Grammar: to be and to have, subject pronouns, articles, gender and numbers of nouns, negative sentences, interrogative sentences, present tense of common verbs, numbers, time.
General communication skills: at the end of the class, the student can introduce self or someone else, ask and answer basic questions.
Research shows that it takes between 15 - 25 hours of study to be able to conduct the simplest of conversations in a second language, with that study being regularly undertaken (preferably daily) over a 6 - 8 week period. Your teacher will set homework assignments to reinforce classroom learning, and also recommends that you practise daily on www.duolingo.com or similar.
French Level 1 - an introduction to basic grammar and common verbs in the present tense.
French Level 2 - expand on grammar and verbs (still present tense).
French Level 3 - you are already familiar with verbs of first group, irregular verbs, days of week, months, seasons and the time; daily routines and reflexive verbs and basics of grammar (masculine and feminine, singular and plural.
French Level 4 - you should be able to use regular and irregular verbs in the present, future and past and know how to describe using masculine/feminine, singular/plural forms.
In this course we will look at the use of the two main past tenses in French PASSÉ COMPOSÉ and IMPARFAIT. We will learn how and when to use them to express past events. We will work on reading, listening and speaking skills.
French Level 5 - for the advanced learner. In this course we will work on the use of the FUTURE SIMPLE. The focus will be on speaking and listening skills.
This level is intended for students with no or minimal experience with the French language.
