Trauma is not just about external events but the internal transformations they trigger. It shapes our emotions, thoughts, and behaviours in profound ways. During this workshop we will unlock the knowledge needed to navigate the intricacies of trauma and its impact on individuals' lives.
As Dr. Gabor Mate aptly puts it, "Trauma is not what happens to you; it is what happens inside of you as a result of what has happened to you." Let's explore this idea further. Trauma goes beyond the events themselves; it's about how these events impact us internally. It involves the separation of our body from our emotions, leading to a disconnection from ourselves. In essence, it disrupts our internal world and can have profound consequences on our mental and emotional well-being.
Different individuals can respond differently to the same or similar events. For instance, consider two people involved in a car crash, experiencing what seems to be the same traumatic event. However, one person may develop post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), while the other does not. The key question here is why do people behave differently in the same traumatic situation? The answer lies in the individual's unique history, biology, resilience, and coping mechanisms. Factors such as past experiences, personal resources, and support systems all play a role in determining how an individual responds to trauma.
In this workshop you will learn precisely why this variability occurs. We'll delve into the science behind trauma, exploring the impact on the brain, nervous system, and emotional regulation and by gaining a deeper understanding of these processes, you will uncover the reasons behind diverse responses to trauma.
Bring a pen and paper for note-taking. We'll supply tea and coffee
