Join textile artist Lesley Pearce to create your own personalised fabric book cover using dyes, stencils and block printing.
During the course you will gain an understanding of several textile printing and dying approaches for surface design. You will use a variety of techniques using minimal tools and techniques: resist dying, stencilling, mono-printing and block printing to design your own fabric. Once dry, the fabric will be used to make a slip cover for a book which you can use for your own personal journal or diary.
Most materials, including the book, are provided. You will go home not only with your book but with a roller, foam heads and a printing plate.
In the morning we will experiment with techniques for fabric printing. In the afternoon we will construct a book cover using our own printed fabric.

Open to anyone who is interested in developing new ways to approach design, and textiles in a non-threatening way. No previous experience is necessary just an open mind to exploring your own creativity.
Lesley is an enthusiastic textile artist who dyes and prints all her own fabrics for her art panels. Her process is one of discovery and a dialogue with the material, form, line, colour and surface textures. Her background is predominantly in education as a high school teacher and facilitator of workshops around NZ.
