Tambour embroidery originated in France during the 18th century. This highly specialised technique involves creating intricate embellishment designs with sequins, beads, pearls, crystals, and other decorative elements. Its execution demands a high level of skill and precision, making it a hallmark of quality craftsmanship. Although traditionally used for haute couture, it's now popular among embroidery enthusiasts and hobbyists.

I graduated from Whitecliffe in 2022 with a Sustainable Fashion Design Degree. I love tailoring and embroidery. Tambour Embroidery was one of my sustainable practices in my final year. I couldn’t find much information about tambour embroidery in New Zealand and no one was teaching it. Therefore, I took it as my mission to revive this beautiful craft and started teaching classes in April 2023.
