Description
Action painting, sometimes called "gestural abstraction", is a style of painting in which paint is spontaneously dribbled, splashed or smeared onto the canvas, rather than being carefully applied. This workshop will introduce you to the world of action painting and allow you to create your own abstract work. You will learn about various action painting styles and techniques. You will complete an artwork within the timeframe of the workshop. We will use acrylic paint in this workshop.
All materials, including paints and good quality paper, are provided for this workshop. We will also supply you with a large (approx 500 x 700mm) canvas to use.
What to bring
Your lunch. A painting smock or apron if you wish to protect your clothes. We'll provide tea and coffee in the staffroom. A materials charge is included within your course fee.
Who should attend this workshop?
Those new to abstract painting as well as those with limited experience who are interested in furthering their skills.
About EK
Ekaterina is an abstract artist based in Ōrākei, Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland. She completed her MFA at Elam in 2020.
