During the course you'll gain a brief history on traditional block printing and explore the craft of block printing on fabric and paper. You'll gather inspiration from nature and found objects to develop your own designs and create your own blocks using a variety of materials. Demonstrations of techniques will be given and then experimenting with them at your own pace to create a final length of fabric or paper. You will also create a visual diary with your experiments documented.
This course is open to adults interested in design, textiles, or quilters looking for fresh ideas. No previous experience is necessary, just an open mind to explore your own creativity.
Your lunch. We'll provide tea and coffee in the staff room for breaks. We'll provide some of the materials for the course (wooden blocks, fabric ink) and you'll need to bring some items as well including apron, diary, cotton cloth, any fabric paints or Resene test pots you have, some textured items, cutting mat and rotary cutter, glue and sponges.
