Description
Learn to dance with easy rhythm dance music. Build your individual dance sequences so that when you hear the music, you'll be able to get up and give it a go. You will be dancing in five minutes in this class.
Please note this course teaches modern swing (known as West Coast Swing) not ballroom swing dance from the '40s.
Please wear comfortable shoes and clothes for dancing - no high or sharp heels. Please enrol in dance couples (course fee of $140 per couple will automatically apply). If you are a single dancer, please contact the office before registration so that we can confirm whether we have another single dancer for you to partner - this might be a same-sex dance partnership if this proves necessary.
Covered in this six-week class:
- basic step sequence, basic step sequence followed by Sugar Push, basic step sequence followed by Lady Overarm Right turn
- Right side pass with Lady Underarm travelling turn, left side pass with Lady Underarm travelling turn
- Tuck pass
- Whip
- The importance of the anchor step and leg / foot movement style
- The 'Starter Step' not the beginner of the dance, but the beginning of a new sequence within the dance.
Who should attend?
Adult dance couples wanting to learn the basics of swing dancing. Designed for beginners but refreshers welcome.
