    What is Adobe InDesign?

Adobe InDesign is a desktop publishing software application produced by Adobe Systems. It can be used to create works such as posters, flyers, brochures, magazines, newspapers, and books. InDesign can also publish content suitable for tablet devices in conjunction with Adobe Digital Publishing Suite.

This beginner-level course is designed for those who have no experience of InDesign and is an introduction to this powerful software. Topics include: document set up, the workspace, working with colour, shapes and pictures, setting text including text wrapping and paragraph styles, plus InDesign extras including the effects palette, pathfinder, gradients and gradient feather.  During the course you'll prepare some simple print publications such as a flyer and a pamphlet.

This twelve-hour course is held in a school PC computer suite. Software version Adobe Cloud 2019 (most recent update to 2022 version). Don't bring your own device unless you already have your own personal access to Adobe via your device.

Who should attend? What to bring

This course suits those with strong computer skills, new to Adobe Indesign.

For evening courses, you will need to practise between classes so should have access to Indesign software at your home or workplace. Visit www.adobe.com to find out more information about the software. Adobe may offer a free trial of their software. As each lesson builds upon knowledge and skills gained in the previous session, it may be difficult to catch up if you miss classes. Therefore only enrol at a time when you are confident you can attend all six classes.

For weekend courses, bring your lunch.

    Other:

    • Please bring a pen for note-taking
    • Bring either your facebook or google password so you can access the school's Adobe software
    • Bring a USB stick for saving your work.
    • If you already have access to Adobe software via your own device, you may prefer to bring this instead of using the school computer.

This course is taught at a level to suit those who are completely new to Indesign.

    Prerequisites

Strong computer skills. For evening courses, students will need access to Adobe Indesign software to practise between classes.
