    Description

Alasdair has been running Soft stone sculpting workshops for over 10 years, after leaving the corporate world to pursue artistic pursuits. Alasdair says, "... with the right instruction and a bit of prompting, virtually every one of my sculpting clients come away with a sculpture they are proud of. Soft stone sculpting is the process of reduction, your sculpture is in the block you start with, you just have to reveal it. I have the tools, the knowledge and the experience to help you reveal your piece of art.”

    2025 dates:

    • 2 March
    • 17 May
    • 27 September
    • 29 November

    Materials included

Your course fee includes a soft stone block approximately 270mm wide x 100mm deep and 400mm tall. As sculpting blocks must be prepared ahead of time, we are unable to accept enrolments on the day of the course. Last day for online enrolment is the Friday morning prior to course commencing. After this time, you can contact the office to see whether spaces are still available. Your tutor will provide the tools for carving.

What to bring to Soft Stone Sculpture

Bring a cardboard box or piece of cardboard for transporting your sculpture home. Bring your lunch and definitely bring a water bottle as carving is thirsty, dusty work. Tea and coffee will be provided in the staffroom when you need to take a break.

    What to wear

Old clothes. The stone contains cement which is harsh on your hands so the tutor will provide disposable gloves.
