    Description

This is a course for beginners and improvers alike led by an internationally experienced artist and author - Alysn Midgelow-Marsden

Explore the subtle colours and beautiful translucency of used tea bags in this tactile mixed media workshop. Learn how to layer and embellish discarded tea bags with hand stitching, beading and found objects to create a unique textile panel.

The results echo the elegance of pojagi and evoke a vintage sensibility with a contemporary twist. Designed primarily for hand stitch, but adaptable to include machine techniques if desired.

    What to bring

Bring your own sewing kit including small sharp scissors, selection of needles, sewing pins, glasses if needed for close work, 20 - 30 dry tea bags - 20-30.  (There will be some available in the class)

A selection of beads and hand stitch threads.

    About your tutor

I love to share my experimental, improvisational approaches and am an internationally acknowledged artist, curator, tutor and author. I specialise in a range of unusual materials such as metals, paper, wire and paint, and not for nothing is my blog called ‘Alysnsburntofferings’ as my techniques include burning, hammering, patinating and distressing (amongst others). Stitching and embellishing are not forgotten and are used freely and expressively. Designs and inspiration are often drawn from natural patterns and textures in addition to a fascination with the history and context of materials and techniques.
