    Description

Join us for a guided hikoi (walk) through the heart of Tāmaki Makaurau, where we celebrate the city through Taonga Toi (artistic treasures) and the Pakiwaitara (stories) they hold. Over 1.5 hours, this immersive walking tour invites you to experience Auckland through a Māori lens—one that reveals layers of unreconciled histories, deep creativity and meaning woven into our urban landscape. Beginning at Hobson’s Grave, descending through Myers Park, and weaving between taonga toi at the Library and Art Gallery, we arrive finally at Aotea Square.

Led by Grayson Goffe, passionate educator, this hikoi highlights the Māori public art, architecture and design that works to shape, language and define our city centre. The research for this journey is drawn from Te Paparahi, Toi Māori – Walks in the City. Throughout the hikoi, we will explore the Te Aranga Design Principles—an innovative, values-based framework that is increasingly shaping the way Tāmaki Makaurau is both designed and experienced.

Nau mai Haere mai—step into a richer, more connected understanding of our city and the values it embodies.
