In this engaging workshop, you’ll dive into the world of calligraphy with a focus on creating your own unique letterforms.
With classic Roman Capitals as your foundation, you will, through guided exercises, learn to mould, morph and manipulate these traditional forms, developing a personalised cohesive alphabet, reflecting your individual style.
Building letterforms, using pencil and fine liner pen, and this foundation of Roman Capitals, you’ll practice to build up strong elegant letter shapes as a jumping off platform for use later. Then we will morph, and manipilate the letters, learning to modify, stretch and combine elements to create a distinct and original alphabet, personalising and developing something that is uniquely yours.
By the end of this workshop you will have a deeper understanding of letter structure and form and the skills to create a customised, artistic alphabet.

About your tutor
Margaret Woollett, a Freelance Calligrapher and Lettering Artist, has been involved with lettering and calligraphy for more than 25 years, as a student, freelancer and teacher. She works from her Devonport studio taking classes, teaching at community centres and working freelance for a wide range of commercial clients.
