About your tutors and their gardens

Amanda Warren and Ellen Eskildsen are garden designers who are interested in permaculture, regenerative gardening and growing herbs. Both are enthusiastic, warm and passionate teachers who will inspire you to get started, or progress, with growing and harvesting herbs in your own space.

Wadhamville Garden for Wellbeing, in St Heliers, has been an organic ‘city lifestyle block’ for some 16 years since the owners, Tim and Amanda moved in and began to transform the weedy, overgrown hilly quarter acre into a haven for living begins of all types including bees, insects, chickens, guinea pigs, tortoises and compost worms, as well as humans and house pets. Built on permaculture principles, and more recently, regenerative design, with a focus on recycling, this garden delivers on kai for people and all the local birds and mini-beasts.

Ellen's garden St Johns Food Forest is a mature food forest which used to be a basic lawn with border beds. Over the last ten years, Ellen has transformed it into a beautiful and bountiful forest garden. Following permaculture principles, Ellen has created a collection of zones, including a terraced vegetable garden and the food forest, full of fruit trees, berries, herbs, and edible perennials and ground cover. There is also a meadow garden and a secret grove.
