Description
Come and create your own concertina-style sketch book with a difference – an ideal travel journal or nature journal and create a memory of the world around you. You will design and create your own covers, learn to fold and cut your paper and add an elastic strap to keep it altogether.
Course outline
- Creating your cover design on A4 paper with paint and markers
- Folding and cutting your paper
- Measure and cut your backing board to fit your folded paper
- Inserting and gluing your elastic strap in place
- Gluing your covers on
Expected learning outcomes
- Know how to make a concertina-style sketchbook
- To make covers with your own designs to fit your folded paper
- Be able to add an elastic strap to hold it together
- To know how to make different size sketchbooks
What to bring and what is provided
Students should bring the following:
- Lunch
- Apron or wear old clothes
- 30cm ruler – preferably metal
- Set square
We will provide all other materials and tools including cotton paper, backing board, elastic, papers, paints and other materials. Tea and coffee will be provided in the staffroom.
Who should attend?
Anyone interested in learning how to make a simple sketchbook with a difference. Ideal for personal use or to give as a gift to someone interested in journaling. Suitable for all, no previous art experience needed. If you are attending Sandra Morris’ Nature Journaling workshop, why not make your own journal to take along!
About your tutor, Lesley Alexander
Lesley is a botanical and nature artist. She loves learning about the natural world through drawing, painting and keeping sketchbooks! Having her own handmade sketchbooks to record her travels and the natural world around her allows Lesley to recall her experiences with greater understanding. Lesley enjoys sharing her skills with others and would love you to show you how to create a beautiful handmade journal to keep your own memories alive.
