    With a nod to the concept of Japanese Furoshiki wrapping, join Karen on this one-day workshop to create your your own beautiful fabric pouch using natural fibres which can be either gifted or used for keepsakes.

    Description

    Join Karen on this one-day workshop using the concept of Japanese furoshiki wrapping to create your own beautiful fabric pouch which can can be either gifted or used for keepsakes.  These pouches also make wonderful coverings for journals, jewellery, laptops and tablets.  You will also personalise your pouch with your initials using Sashiko stitching - leaving with your own unique fabric pouch.  

    Expected learning outcomes

    • Finish a beautiful keepsake in natural fibres
    • Learn the basics of Sashiko stitching
    • Take home your pattern and instructions so you can make more pouches at home
    • Learn tips and tricks from Karen to improve your sewing skills

    What to bring

    • Your lunch
    • 1 metre of fabric - natural fibres only such as cotton, wool or silk
    • 1 metre of lining - natural fibres please
    • 1 metre of wool batting (optional - if you wish to created a padded pouch)
    • roll of matching thread plus bobbin
    • roll of contrasting thread (if you wish) plus bobbin
    • If using Selwyn College's Bernina machines, bring Bernina bobbins for each thread colour
    • 2 ribbons for ties, optional
    • Your own machine, needles and bobbins if you prefer
    • Your sewing kit (scissors, pins, unpicker) if you wish, or share use of the school's equipment

    Who should attend?

    This course is not suitable for beginners. It is best suited to sewists of intermediate ability.
