    Description

Sauerkraut is incredibly nutritious and healthy. It provides probiotics, vitamin C and vitamin K2, which are known for their health benefits, and many other nutrients. The regular consumption of small quantities of fermented foods, such as sauerkraut, is believed to reduce your risk of certain diseases by boosting your immune system.

So if you'd like to become proficient at making this healthful fermented food at home, join us to learn how. It can be simply made using equipment you already have at home - all you need is a knife, a bowl and a jar, cabbage and salt.

This is a hands-on course for making sauerkraut where you will make your own jar and take it home with you - your jar will still need 1-2 weeks of bench-top fermentation and care before it is ready for the fridge.

    Course outline

    • what is fermentation
    • food safety for fermentation
    • how to create sauerkraut
    • when ferments go bad - troubleshooting

A very enjoyable class. It’s a how-to but also covers some of the basic science and nutrition principles in an interesting and accessible way. It teaches you the basics from scratch but also gives you the knowledge and confidence to experiment and develop your skills over time. Luke

Enjoyed the relaxed nature. Good bunch of people and lovely instructor. Really enjoyed learning about gut health and the benefits of fermented foods. S

I enjoyed everything about this class. The interaction with others attending, Helen's expertise and the knowledge gained. The hands on experience was really helpful. Helen's friendly and professional instruction was a pleasure and told me just what I needed to know. This was a one-off class. Length was just right. I would certainly recommend any future class Helen may do. She was a pleasure to listen to and I learned a lot. Extremely enjoyable experience! Thank you Helen. JB
